Jeffrey A. Hyman is a shareholder of Lohf Shaiman Jacobs Hyman & Feiger PC, Denver, Colorado. A former law clerk to Sherman G. Finesilver, Chief Judge (retired), United States District Court, Colorado, Mr. Hyman offers 34 years of civil litigation experience in the areas of personal injury/accidents, premises liability, wrongful death, employment, and business litigation. Mr. Hyman is known nationally for precedent setting cases which he has litigated in various jurisdictions involving injuries to customers from falling merchandise in real warehouse shopping environments. He has obtained multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements for clients. Mr. Hyman’s litigation effort in Scharrel v. Wal-Mart Store, Inc. (1), 949 P2d 89 (Colo. App. 1997), is recognized as a landmark case in the area of falling merchandise litigation. He established a nationally recognized website for falling merchandise: www.FallingMerchandise.com. Mr. Hyman has been featured for his accomplishments in this area of law in numerous international, national, and local articles and professional journals such as Lawyers Weekly USA, and on new programs such as CBS Evening News With Dan Rather, Inside Edition, the BBC program ”Value For Money,” the Lehrer News Hour, NBC-affiliate broadcasters in Chicago, Boston, and Denver, KMGH-ABC Evening News,/ Fox 31 and EXTRA. Mr. Hyman was recognized by the Denver Business Journal in the ”Who’s Who in Professional Services." Recent news coverage featuring Mr. Hyman’s involvement in falling merchandise litigation includes the BBC program (2004) “Wal-Mart’s Outrageous Fortune,” The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, abcnews.com, the Denver Business Journal, the Rocky Mountain News, Smart Money magazine, Washington Law and Politics, Good Housekeeping, and various retail trade publications. Mr. Hyman holds a B.A. from the University of Vermont (1968), and a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law (1972), where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, Justinian Honorary Society and Law Review. He was a captain in the United States Army Reserve. He is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals; U.S. District Court for Colorado; Colorado Supreme Court; State of North Carolina; the U.S. District of North Carolina (Eastern, Middle and Western Districts), and has been admitted in numerous state and federal courts to litigate cases. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the American, Colorado, Denver and North Carolina Bar Associations.
